The New Golden Saloon
The New Golden Saloon is the only full service bar in the valley. It functions as a gathering place for locals as well as visitors to our town. We offer free pool and good music everyday. The new dining area is a great place to while away the long evenings of summer discussing the days adventure or tomorrow's excursion or taking part in the many "open mike" nights. 
The local talent is very good. We locals only half jokingly refer to the New Golden as "the Vortex", a reference to the many characters that inhabit our town. So if you want to meet real Alaskans just come on in and start talking.
History and Photography at the New Golden Saloon
The bar contains wonderful old elements of the original Golden Saloon, including the full back and front bar from the turn of the century. There are lots of bar artifacts including two original stills hanging on the walls (there were many moon-shiners in McCarthy during Prohibition). The remains of the original Golden Saloon building still stand on Shushanna Ave.
There is a mineral display of rocks from around the world, and a collection of artifacts from the 
town that you won’t want to miss. The work of 3 National Geographic Photographers’ - Franz Lanting, George Mobley, and George Herbin - are featured in the dining area. (Both George’s ended up owning summer home-cabins here in McCarthy - you know you are visiting somewhere special when world class photographers move in to town)!
The Vortex
The New Golden Saloon offers draft beers from Alaska and around the world. Our menu features everything from daily pizza specials, buffalo burgers and chicken wings, to salads from our greenhouse - all priced to please your pocketbook. 
After a long day out and about stop in and relax over a meal and a beer. The New Golden presents most of the entertainment in the valley during the summer season.
The New Golden Saloon is the local hangout. Every holiday weekend features another Alaskan band. Several special appearances occur throughout the summer. But mostly, the saloon is the place to go to have a beer and swap a story with your new best friends. Come share a story with the locals and see why McCarthy is one of the friendliest places on earth.
Live Entertainment & Special Events
The New Golden Saloon is proud to sponsor several live bands and special events each season. We also hold open mike night every Thursday throughout the summer.
We review and build the scheduling of our live acts each February and March for the summer season. If you're a musician traveling to our area and wish to apply to perform in our premises, send us a message and we will review your request.
